Three Gardner Edgerton High School wrestlers placed in the top eight at the annual Blazer wrestling invitational last weekend. The meet featured four teams with nationally-ranked wrestlers including squads from Broken Arrow, Okla.; Southeast Polk, Iowa; Platte County, Mo.; and Olathe North High School.
GEHS junior Andrew Sprague led the way with a fourth-place finish at 285-pounds. Junior Dustin Carstens took fifth place at 170-pounds, and T.J. Burger turned in a top performance with an eighth-place finish at 138-pounds.
Other Blazer wrestlers competing were Drake Taysom at 106-pounds, Jenson McDermott at 113-pounds, Matt Klaurens at 120-pounds, Conner Grieg at 126-pounds, Kolbee Finnell at 132-pounds, Austin Furnas at 145-pounds, Kyle Cunningham at 152-pounds, Tristen Martin at 182-pounds, Randy Fruit at 195-pounds, and Justin Sikes at 220-pounds.
Other teams competing included Baldwin High School, Cascia Prep Hall, Dodge City High School, Iowa City (Iowa) High School, Junction City High School, Manhattan High School, Omaha Skutt (Neb.) High School, Pittsburg High School, Shawnee Mission East High School, St. James Academy, and Topeka Seaman High School.
