Mark Bennett “Stick” Sutton, 57, passed away at his home, December 3, 2014, in Gardner, Kan.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 am Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, 138 W Shawnee, Gardner. Visitation will be from 5 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, 913-856-7111. Inurnment will be at Gardner Cemetery. Mark was born September 16, 1957 in Bloomington, Ill. to Leah Margaret (Cardwell) and Thomas Bennett Sutton. He grew up in New Florence, Mo. and the family moved to Gardner in 1968. Mark was a 1976 graduate of Gardner High School and attended Emporia State College. He was a car hauler and truck driver for Jack Cooper Transport for 14 years. Mark married Julie Ann Beckham on October 23, 2004 in Gardner. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union in KCMO, the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner, and the Sons of American Legion Post #19 in Gardner. Mark was a big sports participant. He was active in High School as the quarterback on the football team, a guard on the 1975 Basketball team the year Gardner placed 4th at State, and on the 1975-76 State Tennis team. He was also in the National Honor Society and an avid golfer. Mark loved spending time with his family especially going to his grandchildren’s activities. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Mark is survived by his wife Julie, of the home, his children: Alene Faye Williams (Samuel), Avery Ruth Cordray (Jeff), and Kelsey Nicole Lewis (Tyler), all of Gardner and Lauren Breanne Buckles of Ottawa, KS; five grandchildren, Cooper, Maverick, Bella, Raleigh and Georgia, with another one on the way; siblings Karen M. Hashman of Story City, Iowa and Greg T. Sutton of Gardner.
