It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. At least, it will be soon in five houses located throughout Gardner.
The Gardner Historical Museum has selected five homes to feature on its second Christmas Homes Tour. On Dec. 6, guests can visit the five homes, which will be decorated for the holiday. The tours will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can begin their tour at any of the five houses at 249 W. Main Street, 154 W. Warren Street, 439 S. Center Street, 212 W. Park Street, and 415 S. Center Street.
Highlights of this year’s tour will include a home with rooms decorated by local businesses. Solene Hollingshead is an organizer of the event.
“We’ve got Olde Thyme Décor. We’ve got a neighborhood group from Olathe, and Metcalf Bank participating,” she said.
In another home, the Doris Kessler home at 212 W. Park Street, the tour guide will be the granddaughter of a previous owner.
This is the museum’s second historical homes tour. The first was in 2012, and one of the homes on this year’s tour was purchased and renovated as a direct result of the 2012 tour.
The owners of the home at 249 W. Main Street purchased the house after touring the home next door in 2012.
“I guess on the tour they made the comment that they would like to live on Main Street,” Hollingshead said.
They made the comment in front of the people who actually owned 249 W. Main Street at the time. The new owners have renovated it, and now, they’re showing the home during the 2014 tour.
Unlike 2012, Hollingshead said the houses aren’t all within easy walking distance of the Gardner Historical Museum. Visitors can buy a ticket at any of the homes on the tour. Organizers had about 150 tourists two years ago, and they anticipate more this year.
“So many people had a good time at the first one,” she said.
The tours conclude at the museum and Bray House for a gift bazaar and refreshments.
