Spring Hill High School’s Bronco football team qualified for 4A state playoffs following a 29-8 home win against Louisburg High School on Friday night.
The Broncos will take on the Piper High School Pirates in the first round of the Kansas State High School 4A playoffs. The game begins at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7.
With the win over Louisburg, SHHS, now 4-5 on the season, reached its second straight 4A playoff appearance.
In the first quarter of the Louisburg game, the Broncos went up 7-0 thanks to a 2-yard touchdown run by Charles Elam.
With a seven point lead, Spring Hill tacked on two, second quarter touchdowns. The first score came on a 2-yard touchdown run by Brad Smith. Minutes later, quarterback Ryker Johnson connected with Elam on a 6-yard touchdown pass.
Spring Hill owned a 19-0 lead at halftime, but the Bronco team wasn’t finished.
Johnson added a 7-yard, third quarter touchdown run, and the Broncos concluded the scoring with a 36-yard field goal.
The Broncos accumulated 277 total yards of offense with 128 yards through the air and another 145 rushing yards.
Johnson completed seven of 12 passes on the night. Ivan Hughes grabbed two catches for 62 yards, and Elam had three catches for 52 yards.
On the ground, Smith had 16 totes for 75 yards, while Johnson added 32 yards on 12 carries. Elam had 22 yards on five carries, and Brandon Dofat 10 yards on five carries.
