It took two overtimes, but Blue Valley West High School’s soccer squad prevailed 3-2 on senior night at Gardner Edgerton High School last week.
GEHS took an early 1-0 lead when Carson Harding assisted Dakota Steuber on a goal. Eight minutes later Steuber crossed a pass to Sam Mayeske who scored and put GEHS up 2-0.
Blue Valley West came back with two late goals to tie the game before halftime.
GEHS dominated the second half play, but could not convert a goal. The teams headed into overtime.
Unfortunately, West converted a late second overtime goal and escaped with the victory.
“I’m really proud of how the team battled,” said GEHS Coach Andy Weber. “The crowd was fantastic, and the team responded well.”
The loss left GEHS with an 8-7 record.
