Edna “Nadine” Kurkowski, 91, passed away October 25, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society in Olathe.
Nadine was born August 27, 1923 in Gardner to Edna Elizabeth (Schlaegel) and Ray L. McIntire. She was a 1941 graduate of Gardner High School and completed Airline Training with American Airlines. She worked for American Airlines as a teletype operator at LaGuardia Airport in NYC.
Nadine married Joseph Thomas Kurkowski on July 20, 1946 in Flushing, NY. Upon the birth of their daughter, they moved back to Gardner in March 1950, to raise their family.
N_Kurkowski In Gardner, she was a bank teller for the Farmer’s Bank, retiring in 1981. Nadine later worked at Meadowbrook Hospital in the Insurance Department. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner. Nadine enjoyed gardening, traveling and canoeing locally with Joe. She was an avid reader. Nadine loved spending time with her family, especially the grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe in 1996, brothers Otis Ray and William McIntire, and great grandson Lucas. Nadine is survived by daughter Jodine Louise Schweiger and husband Bernard of Olathe; son Timothy Scott Kurkowski and wife Sherry of Gardner; sister Martha Hodges of Gardner; grandchildren Ryan, Kyle, Anthony and Teri; and three great grandchildren.
