Alice Kathleen “Kathy” Eilenstine, 69, passed away October 25th, 2014 at Kennybrook Village in Grimes, Iowa.
Kathy was born in Jefferson City, MO on June 16th, 1945, the daughter of William Robert “Bill” and Merrial June “Pete” (Brown) Wilson. Kathy graduated from Spring Hill, KS High School, in 1963 as the Valedictorian of her class. She attended and received her Bachelor’s Degree at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kan. in 1967.
Kathy was a longtime Business teacher at Notre Dame High School in Burlington, Iowa where she was well respected and beloved by all who were in her classes. She was known as a tough teacher who saw the best in every student she taught. She loved to introduce her students to the opportunities of entrepreneurship and investing and was the director of the National Honor Society. Kathy also taught business skills classes at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa. Kathy thoroughly loved teaching and helping her students reach the best of their potential.
In 1965, Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Everett Eilenstine, and they were married 46 years until Raymond passed away in 2011. They are survived by their two daughters, Dawn Ekdom and Mindy Sherwood. Dawn is married to Steven Ekdom and they have three daughters, Madelyn, Joscelyn and Gracelyn. Mindy is married to Ben Sherwood, and they have a son, Ethan, and a daughter, Emma. Kathy loved her family, her students, her friends, her flowers, her Hawkeyes and secretly, her Cyclones.
Kathy is also survived by brothers-in-law, Don, Duane, Larry and Gregg Eilenstine; sisters-in-law, Margie, Barbara and Patricia; several cousins, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and her parents, Bill and Pete.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, October 30th, 2014, at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, Kan. (913)592-2244. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 29th, 2014, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kathy Eilenstine Educational Scholarship, to be used for disadvantaged youth, and sent to Bruce Funeral Home, PO Box 7, Spring Hill, Kan. 66083.
