There are eight applicants to replace city council member Larry Fotovich.
Gardner Mayor Chris Morrow said when the deadline passed on Oct. 20, he had eight contenders for the vacant seat. They include Clinton Barney, Shawn Carlisle, Cara Duchesne, Randy Gregorcyk, Carrisa Headley, Steve McNeer, Lee Moore and Todd Winters.
As part of a recently-adopted appointment proces, council members will publicly interview each candidate during the Nov. 3 council meeting.
Candidates will be allowed to give a brief introduction and then they will each be asked to answer the same questions.
“We will try to limit the questions, and then everyone will have about a one-minute closing,” Morrow said.
Morrow said members of the general public can submit potential questions for council applicants to city clerk, Jeanne Koontz.
Depending on how the interviews go, the council may require a second round of interviews.
Fotovich resigned on Sept. 26, after moving to Olathe. His appointed replacement will serve until April 2015, the remainder of his term.
“I’d like to get somebody seated as soon as possible,” Morrow said. “The next meeting ought to be plenty exciting.”
The next council meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 at city hall.
