Maurice Lynn TaylorMaurice Lynn Taylor, 61, of Edgerton, KS passed away October 19, 2014 at his home.
Maurice was born October 14, 1953 in Portsmouth, Va. to Gaylen Vern and Roberta Joan (Frank) Taylor. He grew up in Gardner and was a graduate of Gardner High School in 1971, and then attended Fort Hays State College with an emphasis on broadcasting. Maurice served in the United States Army. He moved to Edgerton in 1975. Maurice was a member of Edgerton United Methodist Church and was a founding member of the Heart of America Explosive Engineers Society. He served as the Mayor of Edgerton for nine years and was a member of the Johnson County Council of Mayors. Maurice was a scuba diving instructor and Dive Master at Midwest Aquatics in Overland Park. He drove a truck for 5 Star Trucking and previously was a manager at the Edgerton quarry. He participated in Biking Across Kansas, MS150 and enjoyed snow skiing and hunting. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Maurice is survived by Frances “Frankie” Cross of the home; his parents of Gardner, Kan.; first wife Joan Dorsey Taylor, Gardner; children, Zachary and wife Michelle Taylor of Shawnee, Kan. and Christy Taylor and Scott Farkus of Twin Falls, ID; sister, Mary Ann and husband Robert Mann of Bonn, Germany; niece, Alexandria Mann; nephew, Scott Mann; step-children, Dustin Cross and Kati Robertson; four step-grandchildren, Tucker, Abby, Brice, Baylee.
Memorial service will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Edgerton United Methodist Church, 300 E. 4th St. Edgerton, Kan. 66021. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, 66030 (913) 856-7111.
