Gardner-Edgerton Board of Education members approved a proposal for new board member boundaries during an Oct. 6 meeting.
The USD 231 school board is comprised of seven board members, who represent six district positions – two from each of three districts and one at-large member. In a general election, all Gardner-Edgerton School District voters cast ballots for all board district positions. In a primary election, however, voters only narrow the field in the districts in which they live.
In redistricting board boundaries, a planning committee sought to meet several objectives, including impacting as few changes to current boundaries as possible, maintaining voting precincts and creating district populations that consider future estimated growth.
The boundary changes will move a small section of existing number one into districts two and three.
Currently, board members James Repshire and Mary Nelson represent district number one. Mary Herbert and Rob Shippy represent district number two, and Tresa Boden and Brad Chandler represent district number three. Mark Grannell serves as the board’s at-large member. Repshire, Herbert, Boden and Grannell will be up for re-election in 2015. The terms of the remaining three – Shippy, Nelson and Chandler – expire in 2017.
The next board meeting is set for 6 p.m. on Nov. 10.
