USD 231 and USD 230 have each selected two candidates for the annual First Year Horizon Teacher Award.
The award, given by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), recognizes teachers for exemplary performance during their first year in the classroom.
The Gardner Edgerton School District has named Kylee Stutheit, a fifth grade teacher at Wheatridge Middle School, and Holly Green, a computer teacher at Gardner Edgerton High School, as its candidates for the recognition.
The Spring Hill School District has named Haley Epperson, a fourth grade teacher at Spring Hill Elementary School and Jamie Droegemeier, a math teacher at Spring Hill Middle School, as its winners.
As district-level winners, they now have the opportunity to compete in the Kansas State Department of Education’s 2015 Kansas Cable Telecommunications Horizon Award Program. This initiative provides each Kansas school district with the opportunity to encourage, recognize, and reward new members of the profession. The mission of the program is to recognize exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.
The KSDE will name statewide winners in early February.
