Despite an early 6-0 lead, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazers dropped a hard-fought 34-21 homecoming decision to rival St. Thomas Aquinas (STA) last Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, GEHS got on the scoreboard when Griffin Johns connected with Colton Mullin on a three-yard touchdown pass.
Back came STA with a 66-yard touchdown run by James Cosentino. Minutes later, Aquinas added touchdown runs by Jacob Leikam and Karter Odermann to go up 21-6 at halftime.
STA added another 85-yard touchdown run by Odermann and Leikam found Odermann on a 15 yard touchdown strike.
Trailing 34-6, GEHS regrouped with 15, fourth-quarter points. Mullin had a big night with 67-yards on 13 carries and scored three times.
Now 0-5, GEHS hopes to get its first win at Blue Valley North High School Friday night. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at Blue Valley.
