The Spring Hill High School varsity football team scored 30 second-half points to defeat De Soto High School 37-36 on Friday night.
Early on, De Soto took control with a 22-0 first-half lead, but the Broncos began staging a comeback with an eight-yard touchdown pass from Ryker Johnson to Ivan Hughes in the third quarter.
Following an 11-yard touchdown run by De Soto, SHHS’ Johnson notched a two-yard touchdown run. He added two more touchdown strikes before De Soto netted another 11-yard touchdown run.
Trailing 36-29, the Broncos sealed the victory with a 21-yard touchdown strike from Johnson to Charles Elam. Johnson won the game with a two-yard conversion run.
Through the air, Johnson completed 11 of 23 passes for 255 yards. His favorite target was Hughes, who hauled in four catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Elam had five catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Brad Smith gained 24 yards on eight totes. Brandon Dofat added 23 yards on four carries, and Elam had 22 yards on five carries.
