Falling behind 28-7 at halftime, the Gardner Edgerton High School Trailblazers lost 42-21 to visiting Blue Valley West last Friday night.
The Blue Valley West Jaguars, 3-1, took control early on a 22-yard touchdown run by Tyler Cox. Just before the end of the first quarter, West went up 14-0 on a 90-yard pass from Nathan Wiles to Luke Curtis.
Cox scored again early in the second quarter on a one-yard run, and the Jags went up 28-0 when Sam Davis returned a 65-yard punt to paydirt.
The Blazers put points on the board just before halftime. GEHS senior quarterback Colton Mullin capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a one-yard plunge into the endzone.
The Jags added three touchdown runs in the second half before GEHS’ Tanner Hughes returned a Jag kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.
GEHS running back Keegan Michael scored from 26 yards out with a little more than four minutes left in the game for the final score.
Due to injuries to three Blazer backs, Michael, a freshman, was called into action. He responded with 105 yards on 27 carries.
Meanwhile, Mullin connected on 7 of 15 for the night and also added a rushing touchdown.
Now 0-4, the Blazers remain home to host St. Thomas Aquinas High School (STA). STA comes to town with a 3-1 record and still smarting from a 37-20 loss to Bishop Miege High School.
