Battling until the end, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer soccer squad dropped a hard fought 3-0 decision to perennial power St. Thomas Aquinas High School last week.
GEHS trailed just 1-0 late in the second half, when St. Thomas Aquinas converted two late goals to seize the victory.
St. Thomas Aquinas converted a penalty kick with 15 minutes left in the game to go up 2-0, and then sealed the verdict with another goal with 5 minutes left.
“The varsity played the best game versus St. Thomas Aquinas since I’ve been here,” said Coach Andy Weber. “I was extremely proud of the effort.”
The C-team lost 7-1 and the JV lost 8-1 against St. Thomas Aquinas.
It’s a busy week for Weber and his team as they compete in non-league games against Lawrence, Wyandotte, and Ottawa High Schools.
