The Gardner Police Department recently wrapped up its participation in the 2014 “You Drink. You Drive. You Lose.” campaign sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation. GPD officers provided 72 hours of extra traffic enforcement between Aug. 14 and Sept. 1 through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation. During that time, 120 traffic stops resulted in one DUI arrest and 38 other citations were issued; 22 of those citations were for seatbelt violations.
Officers were out again on Saturday, Sept. 13 as part of the special traffic enforcement program. This initiative focused on aggressive driving, such as following too close and failing to signal lane changes. These infractions are primary causes of accidents and frustration on the roadway.
Motorists are reminded that buckling their seatbelts every time they are in a vehicle is one of the most important and most effective things they can do to avoid or reduce injuries in a crash.
