Firefighters battled at two-alarm fire at AGC Glass Plant in Spring Hill on Sept. 22.
Johnson County Fire District No. 2 personnel spotted smoke from their nearby station at approximately 10:40 a.m. They reported the fire and responded to the incident.
According to a press release from the glass company, the fire started in a mixing room at the plant. A heat transfer liquid, Therminol 55, overheated and caught fire in its storage unit.
Glass plant personnel evacuated the when the fire was discovered, and there were no injuries.
Plant officials said the incident will not affect operations, and property loss estimates are still being determined.
Firefighters upgraded the event to a two-alarm at 10:48 a.m., triggering a response from the Olathe Fire Department. Officials also requested a hazardous material response. However, they report that no hazardous materials were released, and the plant’s internal control systems contained chemical runoff from the event.
AGC Glass Plant is located at 20400 Webster Street in Spring Hill.
