Anna Mitchell

Anna Mitchell, a Spring Hill High School (SHHS) senior, has been named a 2015 National Merit Semifinalist. Semifinalists are high school students with the highest scores on the Preliminary SAT test.
After high school, Mitchell’s plans are to attend college and earn a degree in education in order to teach upper elementary or middle school students. As a SHHS student, she is a member of the orchestra and plays the viola. Mitchell also takes part in the Thespian Society. In addition, she is the senior class treasurer and co-captain of the Scholar’s Bowl team as well as playing tennis. Outside of school, she volunteers at the public library, helps with and performs in community theater shows, and babysits. This summer, Mitchell spent six weeks learning Russian, as part of the National Security Language Initiative for Youth program.
More than 1.4 million students in over 22,000 high schools entered the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Program by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
The 16,000 semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state and represent less than 1 percent of each state’s high school seniors.
Semifinalists are the only participants who qualify to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in the spring of 2015. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
