Dorothy Mae Stewart, 82, of Gardner, KS passed away September 17, 2014 in Gardner.
Dorothy was born February 22, 1932 in Marysville, Kan. to William Richard and Gertrude Matilda (Husted) Pinkham. She grew up in Marysville and graduated from Marysville High School.
Dorothy married Charles F. Stewart August 28, 1960 in Washington, Kan. After they married they lived in many places and settled in Gardner in 1966. She worked in Gardner at Chaney’s Market, the Sewing Factory and the Gardner Elementary Cafeteria. Dorothy then worked for 28 years, from 1972 to 2000, in the Art Department for Gill Studios, a commercial printing company in Lenexa. Dorothy loved to bowl, bowling for both Gardner and Olathe leagues for many years and in many tournaments all over the country. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner and the American Legion Auxiliary in Gardner. Dorothy was an avid Chiefs and KU Basketball fan. Spending time with her family was very important and she loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1988; an infant daughter, Cynthia and siblings, Marjorie Wurtele and William “Red” Pinkham. She is survived by her children: Sandy (Kook) Nellor of Spring Hill, Kan, Richard “Rick” Stewart of Gardner, Kan, Mark Stewart of Gardner, Kan, Joni (Rick) Meyer of Spring Hill, Kan and Paula (Kirk) Pyle of Gardner, Kan; grandchildren: Jake, Preston, Lucy and Logan and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are, September 25, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner, 138 E. Shawnee, Gardner, Kan 66030 . Visitation from 12:30 – 2:00 pm before the service, also at the church.
