The Commemorative Air Force Heart of America Wing will host an Air Expo at New Century this weekend. The event will feature a variety of vintage war aircraft including a B-17, a B-25, and a P-51.
The air show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 14. At 1 p.m. each day, guests will see an air show with performances by the Commemorative Air Force’s P-51 Gunfighter, and a World War II dogfight between a replica Japanese Zero and the Gunfighter.
Air show guests can also book rides on some of the vintage aircraft.
The Heart of America Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is located at 6 Aero Plaza in New Century, which was once the Olathe Naval Air Station – the primary training facility for naval pilots during World War II.
The organization is a non-profit group that seeks to keep vintage aircraft in flying condition.
