Spring Hill High School rallied from a 6-0 halftime deficit and to take a hard-earned 14-13 overtime victory from Paola High School last week.
After a scoreless first quarter, Paola got on the scoreboard, thanks to a 6-yard touchdown run by Nathan Staats. The extra point try was denied, and the Paola Panthers went into halftime leading 6-0.
Back came the Spring Hill Broncos with a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ryker Johnson. The point-after kick by Ivan Hughes was no good making it a tie ball game.
After a scoreless fourth quarter, the teams headed to overtime.
Paola struck first on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Gleghorn to Donovan Sutti. The Panthers converted the extra-point kick, and the Panthers held a short lived 13-6 lead.
Not to be outdone, Spring Hill rallied for 8 points to get the victory.
SHHS quarterback Johnson scored on a 1-yard run, and then he connected with Brad Smith for the two-point, game-winning conversion.
For the game, Johnson connected on two of 11 passes for 65 yards. He had 10 carries for 27 yards. Smith carried 12 times for 51 yards. Brandon Dofat had four carries for 26 yards, and Charles Elam had three carries for four yards.
