Dale Hermon, 85, of Olathe, Kansas passed away May 30, 2014 at his home.
Dale was born July 25, 1928 in Gardner to William Ray and Lois Mae (Moore) Hermon. He was a 1946 graduate of Gardner High School. Dale served in the U. S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict.
Dale married Ruth Marie Frazier on Nov. 30, 1952 in Olathe in the Mahaffie House, where the bride’s parents lived. He was a farmer for 35 years, from 1952 to 1987 and he was also a flight instructor at the Gardner Airport.
Dale was a member of the Gardner Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon and the “Flying Farmers” group. In the 1960s, he was a Gardner-Edgerton-Antioch, USD No. 231, School Board Member. He served on the Board of Directors for the Gardner Community Medical Center, the Farmer’s Union Co-Op in Spring Hill and Olathe and Rural Water District No. 7. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time doing woodworking and other projects for his family and friends. Dale truly loved to farm and fly, but most of all he loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years; children, Don and Diana, of Olathe; Jim and Michel, of Edgerton, Kansas and Glenn and Pam, of Spring Hill, Kansas; six grandchildren and five and three quarters great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., June 3, 2014 at Gardner Church of Christ 158 W. Park St., Gardner, KS 66030. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 2, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS 66030 (913)856-7111.
