The Gardner Edgerton School District confirmed that May 23 will be the final day of the 2013-2014 school year. When district officials set this year’s school calendar, they built-in snow day contingencies.
With no snow days, the school year would end on May 21.
Depending on the number of snow cancellations, the school year could have ended on May 21, May 22 or May 23. The provisional days tacked onto the end of the calendar allowed the district to cancel school up to four days without having to review the calendar. To date, the district has canceled four days this school year.
School officials confirmed the May 23 final day during a board meeting last week. School will release early on the last day of the school year. High school students will be released at 11 a.m., middle school students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m. and elementary students will be released for the summer at 11:25 a.m. on May 23. No lunches will be served.
