Brooke Hughes is stepping up. She will take assistant principal job at Wheatridge Middle School on July 1. Hughes will fill the position left vacant by Jeremy McDonnell, who was named WMS Principal this spring. USD 231 board of education members approved the Hughes hire during a April 14 meeting.
Hughes currently serves as intermediate principal in the Atchison School District, but she worked in the Gardner Edgerton School District for six years as a student support coordinator and as a kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth grade teacher. She is experienced in special education, staff development, behavior management, educational technology and curriculum management and design.
“I am thrilled to return to the Gardner and Edgerton communities and look forward to serving the students and families of Wheatridge Middle School,” Hughes said.
Hughes holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Education Leadership, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Education Leadership and Administration, all from Baker University.
“Brooke is an experienced and proven leader and will be a great fit at Wheatridge,” interim-superintendent Pam Stranathan said. “She makes decisions based on what is best for students and provides valuable mentorship to others. Her strengths and talents align very nicely with the needs of the position. We are very excited to have her back at USD 231.”
