The Gardner Police Department wants your drugs.
Police officers will join the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and other law enforcement agencies in the eighth National Prescription Take Back Event.
Old or expired medicines in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse, studies show. Additionally, the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.
Previous methods of disposal, including flushing them in the toilet and throwing unused medication in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.
Gardner police officers will collect unused and unwanted prescription medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Gardner Price Chopper, 830 E. Main Street. The officers will collect the medications with no questions asked. They will not take pressurized, aerosol meds like inhalers.
