John Thomas Rothwell, 84, of Gardner, Kan. passed away April 3, 2014.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., April 7, 2014 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 555 W. Main, Gardner, KS 66030. Burial follows at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery, Gardner with Military Honors. Visitation was held April 6, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS 66030 (913)856-7111 with a Rosary. John was born on April 12, 1929 in Gardner to John Joseph and Ethel Leona (Bechler) Rothwell. He grew up in Gardner, graduating from Gardner High School in 1947.
John was a member of the United States Air Force. He worked for KCP&L as a Journeyman Lineman in Paola for 40 years, retiring in 1992.
John was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Gardner and the Knights of Columbus. He was always very generous and often donated to private charities. He will be dearly missed by his large family and many friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Gabrielle and siblings, Rita Kelly and Jim Rothwell.
He is survived by his children, Mary Lynn (Craig) Kosinski, of Emporia, Kan., John (Naomi) Rothwell, of Lawrence, Kan., Teresa (Paul) Scott, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Elizabeth (Ron) Amyx, of Columbus, Kan., Mark Rothwell and Janice Chapman, of Tonganoxie, Kan., Timothy Rothwell, of Cloquet, Minn., Angela (Mark) Bonin, of Checotah, Okla., Veronica Rothwell, of Pooler, Ga., Kathy Rothwell and Bob Waters, of Wellsville, Kan. and Andrea (Arlen) Kleinsorge, of Gardner; sisters, Mary Guenther, of Gardner and Rose Patterson, of Rantoul, Kan.; brother, Jerome “Joe” Rothwell; 30 grandchildren; 30 great-granchildren and former wife, Joan Eileen (Dugger) Rothwell.
