Russell DeWain Schulz, 92, of Gardner, Kan., passed away March 21, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
Russell was born March 31, 1921 in rural Edgerton, Kan. to John Levi and Clara Ann (Rausch) Schulz. A life-long area resident, he graduated from Gardner High School in 1939.
Russell married Dorothy A. Denny on March 14, 1948 in Gardner.
He worked for Rose Construction Company for 36 years, starting in custom home building and retiring as a lead foreman with steel construction. Russell built his own homes and enjoyed remodeling projects.
He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Gardner, serving as their treasurer for over 40 years and he spent many hours on the new addition for the church.
He built clocks and loved to garden. Russell will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Annalee Coldren; sister, Mildred Steed; and brothers, Norman and Chester.
Russell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy, of the home; children Dean Schulz and wife Donna, of Newton, Kan., John W. Schulz and wife Lori, of Olathe, Kan. and Dorothy “Dolly” Schulz, of Gardner; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and brother Glenn Schulz, of Edgerton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., March 25, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Gardner, 324 E Shawnee. Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., March 24, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, (913)856-7111. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Gardner.
