Gardner Police officers will host a second citizens police academy beginning March 2014. The class allows participants the opportunity to meet and interact with officers while learning about the structure and activities of the Gardner Police Department.
The academy consists of nine sessions beginning on March 13. Sessions are led by police officers from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday evenings at city hall. Topics covered include patrol procedures, criminal law, officer safety, traffic enforcement and investigations and tours of the Johnson County Adult Detention Center and crime.
Applications for the class are available at city hall, the Gardner Police Department and online at Completed applications should be returned to the police department no later than Feb. 21. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, live or work in Gardner and have no criminal history. Background checks will be conducted. Class size is limited.
