Donald “Butch” Freund, 69, of Gardner, Kan. passed away on Dec. 30, 2013 while visiting family and friends in Phoenix, Ariz. at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital.
Butch was born April 20, 1944 in Gardner to Clyde R. and Alta “Lucille” Freund. Butch was a lifelong resident of Gardner. He married Sharon K. Bell, of Olathe, on June 26, 1965.
He farmed and worked for Kansas City Power and Light as a Journeyman Lineman Splicer, retiring in 2007 after 36 years of service.
Butch was very active in the community and was a member of the Gardner Lion’s Club, the Masonic Lodge No. 65 in Gardner, Abdullah Shriners in Overland Park, the Scottish Rite in Lawrence, Morning Grange and the Quarter Century Club with KCP&L.
He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Brenda Hoffman.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of the home, two sons, Mark of Olathe and Bryan and Milisa of Wellsville., four grandchildren Lindsey, of Phoenix, Ariz., Zachary, of Olathe, Sydnee and Diesel, of Wellsville; brothers Charlie, of Mayer, Ariz. and John “JH”, of Edgerton; sisters, Phyllis Crabb, of Hemet, Calif., Karen Clark, of Rhome, Texas and Judy Lenahan, of Gardner.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 18, 2014 in the Open Class Building at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Gardner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, the Olathe Hospice House, the Masonic Lodge No. 65 of Gardner or The Pet Connection, Inc. in Olathe.
