The Gardner Police Department will be participate in a special traffic enforcement program sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation over the Thanksgiving holiday.  A grant program from KDOT underwrites overtime traffic enforcement targeted at impaired drivers with a secondary focus on seatbelt usage.
The Thanksgiving enforcement campaign will run from Nov. 25  to Dec. 1. Gardner will have extra enforcement during this time period and will be concentrating on persons driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs with a secondary emphasis on safety restraints.
Those driving Under the Influence of alcohol or other drugs endanger not only themselves, but also their passengers, other motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.  Those persons who do not “Buckle Up” are approximately 12 times more likely to be killed and almost twice as likely to suffer injury as those who are properly restrained.
