Dwight Lee Spencer, 62, of Gardner, Kan., passed away Nov. 20, 2013 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Dwight was born Oct. 6, 1951 in Nevada, Mo. to Jesse Denzil and Virginia Irene (Mallory) Spencer. He was a 1969 graduate of Ft. Scott High School and attended college.
Dwight married Jeanette Lea Crossland on Nov. 10, 1973 in Ft. Scott. They moved to the Gardner Edgerton area in 1978.
Dwight retired from Lucent Technologies after 34 years. He was a truck driver for Gault Trucking in Shawnee.
He was very active in Grace Baptist Church in Gardner. Dwight enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He was an avid Chiefs, Royals and KU fan. He coached youth sports in Gardner and high school baseball at Olathe Christian School. Dwight loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and infant brother Roger. Dwight is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of the home; children Shiloh Dawn Harlan and Eric, of Gardner and Eli Crossland Spencer and Hallie, of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren Cale and Jenna; siblings Larry Spencer, of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Betty Karr of Phoenix, Ariz., Darrell Spencer of Ft. Scott, Kan., Billy Joe Spencer, of Carrollton, Texas and Thomas Spencer, of Radcliff, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
Dwight was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle who lived to serve his Savior, his family and his many friends. Dwight was a humble man who touched many lives. We thank God for Dwight’s wonderful life. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Nov. 25, 2013 at Grace Baptist Church, 650 E Madison, Gardner, KS. Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 24, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, (913)856-7111.
