In October, the city of Gardner initiated the community outreach component of the seven-step process for updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan. To continue this outreach, the city will be hosting two events: a Community Workshop and a Business Workshop.
These events are an opportunity for residents and business owners to communicate what they believe to be the strengths and weaknesses of their community, and to prioritize what issues are most important for the city to address.
Community Workshop
A Community Workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Gardner City Hall. This workshop will review of the purpose of the Comprehensive Plan, the planning process to be undertaken and the schedule for the project; and secure local views on concerns, issues and potentials within the community. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend.
Business Workshop
A Business Workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 at Gardner City Hall. This workshop will review aspects of the Comprehensive Plan and obtain feedback from members of the local business community. This workshop is open to the general public, but will be targeted specifically to business owners and managers.
In addition to the upcoming workshops, there will be many other opportunities for residents, business owners and others to engage in the process. They include, but are not limited to, an interactive project website, social networking, an on-line community issues mapping tool, a community open house and public meetings of the Gardner City Council and Planning Commission. Community Development staff are also available for questions and suggestions, and are willing to meet with groups for briefing and feedback sessions upon request.
City Administrator, Cheryl Harrison-Lee, notes, “The Comprehensive Plan Update is a key project for the city of Gardner. I look forward to hearing from our residents and business community at these initial workshops, which are the first of several opportunities for the public to contribute to this essential visioning process.”
