Robert J. “Rusty” Shadoin, 67, of Olathe, Kan., passed away Oct. 13, 2013 in Olathe.
Rusty was born March 3, 1946 in New Castle, Ind. He grew up in Greensboro, Ind. and moved to Gardner in 1963 where he graduated from Gardner High School in 1964.
Rusty married Vivian Louise Turner on June 4, 1964 in Olathe.
He was the Waste Water Management Supervisor with the City of Olathe for 17 years, retiring in 2007. Rusty also co-owned the Olathe Executive Answering Service with Vivian and R & R Janitorial Service. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he volunteered for Holy Bread Runners and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Rusty was a member of the Gardner Bunko Bunch, the Gardner Lions Club, and the Angel Food Network. He was a volunteer for the Gardner Historical Museum, and was very involved over the last two years renovating “the Bray House”. He lived for and loved to help others. Rusty was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, being the grandkids #1 fan, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian in 2011.
Rusty is survived by his children Valerie Broers and husband Kendall, of Ottawa, Kan., Tammy Atkins and husband Robert, of Raytown, Mo., Tim Shadoin and wife Kristy, of Haven, Kan., and Mindy Shadoin, of Overland Park, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and four siblings.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Oct. 18, 2013 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1600 W 143rd St, Olathe, KS 66062. Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 17, 2013, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, (913)856-7111, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or the Gardner Historical Museum.
