The USD 231 board met in a brief 40-minute session Oct. 7. Board members approved a series of house keeping agenda items and received written reports from director-level district staff.
Mark Grannell, board president, recognized Gardner Elementary students Kyleigh Kauffman, Evadean Sanders, Hailey Sullivan and Damian Walker as special guests who would lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Board members elected James Repshire, a member of the USD board of education since 1999, as vice president of the body.
The board presented Shining Star awards to Nikki Mallinckrodt, a fourth grade teacher at Gardner Elementary and Sherry Langrehr, building secretary at Pioneer Ridge Middle School.
Christy Ziegler, executive director of educational services, presented the quarterly business appreciation recognition to Baker University, praising its support of the district with a donation of backpacks filled with school supplies for students in need.
English Learners teachers at Grand Star Elementary, Jenny Becker and Angela Bowman, presented a group of students working to master the English language.
Written directors’ reports were provided to board members and accepted without additional questioning or requests for explanation.
Board member Mary Herbert did not attend the meeting.
