The seventh grade Wheatridge varsity Mustang football team improved to 3-1 with a hard fought 32-20 win at Spring Hill, Sept. 24.
Jacob Hunsperger got WMS on the board first with a 46-yard touchdown run. Luke Jennings added a successful two point conversion run.
After a Maverick touchdown, WMS went back to work scoring two second quarter touchdowns to go up 20-8 at halftime.
Hunsperger returned an interception 35 yards in the second half and WMS held off a late Spring Hill rally to post a 12 point win.
“We faced a lot of adversity in the game but our boys fought hard and finished strong,” said Coach Jason Radel.
Radel praised the performance of Peyton Vance, Luke Jennings and Josh Greenleaf. Vance recorded 7 tackles, Jennings and Greenleaf had 6 tackles each.
Offensively, Hunsperger continues to lead the way. He now has 640 yards and nine touchdowns in four games. Now 3-1, the Stangs play at Eudora this week.
