Calvin Kirk Petty, 86, of Spring Hill, Kan., passed away Sept. 30, 2013 at Sunrise Senior Living of Overland Park, Kan.
Calvin was born on Jan. 15, 1927 in Phoenix, Ariz., to Kirk Francis and Anna Emily (Moore) Petty. He was attending North Phoenix High when he was drafted to the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Calvin married Betty Jene Tyson on July 31, 1947 in Kansas City, Mo. They lived in Overland Park for over 30 years. He was a Co Founder of Petty Products Shower Door Company in Olathe, Kan., retiring in 1991. Calvin and Betty retired to Bentonville, Ariz. for 15 years and moved to Spring Hill in 2005. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Overland Park. Calvin was good with his hands and he helped build their retirement home in Arkansas. He also enjoyed anything outdoors including: fishing, hunting and vegetable gardening. Calvin was a good cook and a lover of music. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Calvin was preceded in death by Betty, in 2009, and his parents.
He is survived by daughters, Calayne and Gail Stanton and Diana and Bob Peterson, all of Spring Hill; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter on the way and his special companion, Margaret Dierolf, of Olathe, Kan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, KS, (913)592-2244. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, Kan.
