The city of Gardner is expanding its digital communication tools, according to a press release issued this week.
“These tools are just the beginning of an effort to lead the trend in digital communication with other exciting and cost-effective resources to be introduced in coming months,” city administrator Cheryl Harrison-Lee said. “Communicating digitally will not only allow for better and more up-to-date information for our citizens and visitors, but will also save the city over $15,000 annually in printing and postage costs.”
The digital enhancements will include upgrades to the city’s website at The site will include a fresh look and readily accessible information and a mobile platform.
Additionally, the parks and recreation department introduced a new electronic activities and events calendar. The digital calendar will provide up-to-date information on programs and events, and activities will be linked to associated webpages. The calendar will replace the printed Activity Guide that is currently mailed to all residents. Residents received the last print copy of the Activity in their mailboxes last week. The parks department will also launch a new activities registration program where citizens can sign-up for events online without being accessed a convenience fee.
Websites aren’t the only city assets getting a digital remodel. City staff is also in the process of enhancing its social media presence. Though the city has been active on Facebook and Twitter since 2011, the Gardner Police Department and Parks and Recreation Departments have recently introduced pages on Facebook.
