The third annual Kade Meyer Celebration run is set for Sept. 21 at Celebration Park in Gardner.
The event, which included a 5K walk/ run, and Kids 1-mile fun run, will honor the life and spirit of Kade Meyer, Who was killed at age 7 after being struck by a car while leaving Madison Elementary in 2010.
The Celebration run, now in its 3rd year, donates all proceeds to the Kade Meyer memories fund, which awards scholarships for graduating seniors at Gardner-Edgerton high school. In 2013, the Fund awarded 4 seniors with scholarships of $4000 each.
Kade’s parents, Stormy and Mark Meyer, hope to continue increasing the number of recipients, as well as the value of the scholarships each year until 2021, which would have been Kade’s graduating year.
The event begins at 7:30 a.m. for the Kids Fun Run and 8 a.m. for the 5K/ 10K events is family oriented and kid friendly. It will feature a Kids Zone, which include a bounce house and large tented area for all kids to commemorative crafts, all children completing the 1-mile fun run will receive a finisher medal.
New this year is a Children’s Marathon mile. Children are encouraged to train by running and walking and accumulative 25.2 miles in the weeks leading up to the race. The children will then run a 1 mile fun run to complete their marathon and receive a special marathon mile medal.
