Summer is slipping by at an alarming rate. It seems like just yesterday, the schools were closing up shop for a long summer break.
And somehow, here it is – almost school time again. New teachers will kick-off the school year on Aug. 5, less than two weeks from today.
As teachers are setting up their classrooms and learning the ropes at orientation and in-service, the fairgrounds will open for the annual Johnson County Fair.
That’s right. Fair week is less than 10 days from now. It’s happening quickly. Despite what is sure to be a week full of sizzling hot days and fair nights of fun, the Johnson County Fair signifies the close of summer for many Gardner residents, including those of us here at the Gardner News.
The fair signals that the days will soon be getting shorter; the leaves will soon be falling in shades of orange, gold and brown. The days will be getting cooler, and football kick-offs are just around the corner.
Summer is growing older, and you are too. So get out and enjoy the sunshine. Buy a snowcone and take a walk. Sit on your back porch and sip some lemonade, because summer is racing past.
