Robert L. “Bob” Wolford
Robert L. “Bob” Wolford, 85, of Gardner, Kan., passed away July 13, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Bob was born Dec. 4, 1927 in LeRoy, Kan. to Walter L. and Grace E. (Parker) Wolford. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1945.
He served as a Fireman 1st Class in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Bob married Maril-Lee Demler on Feb. 14, 1948 in Burlington, Kan. They lived in Topeka, Overland Park, and Lyndon before moving to Gardner last year.
Bob was a self-employed carpenter and worked in many building trades. He was also a maintenance superintendent for eight years for Kansas City Missouri Housing Authority.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, and a charter member of Overland Park Baptist Temple. Bob was a member of the Carpenter’s Local Union #61, and the American Legion of Osage City, Kan.
He loved spending time with his family, fishing, bowling, playing cards, checkers and dominos. Bob will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kirk E Wolford, and sister Nadine Thomas.
Bob is survived by his wife Maril-Lee, of the home; children Cheryl E. Blood (Harold), of Rockaway Beach, Mo., Douglas L Wolford (Theresa), of Overland Park, Kan., Gerald W. Wolford (Renee), of Merriam, Kan., and Stephen K Wolford (Margaret), of Overland Park, Kan.; daughter-in-law Janet, of Lyndon, Kan.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and siblings, Nell Wynn, of Topeka, Kan., June Wolford, of Hoyt, Kan., Dorothy Drain, of Fayetteville, Ark., and Doris Sumpter, of Topeka, Kan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Grace Baptist Church, 650 E. Madison, Gardner, KS. Burial will follow at Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. before the service at the church. Arrangements by Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111.
