Using balanced scoring, the Lady Blazer track team finished second in the 76th annual Eastern Kansas League track meet hosted by Gardner Edgerton High School  May 10. The Lady Blazers fell just four points short of champion St. Thomas Aquinas in a very competitive meet.
Senior Cassie Wait continued to dominate the pole vault event winning another league title with a clearance of 13’-0”. Natalie Mitchell finished second clearing 10’-6” and Abby Buie was third with a 10’-0” effort.
Equally impressive was senior Danie Plank who won the javelin event with a throw of 142’-3”. Jessica Cisneros took second with a 127’-3” effort and Jill Starling was fifth with a throw of 122-8”.
Plank also won the shot put with a heave of 38’-8”. Kyra Burcham took fifth with a 34’-7” and Lauren Strick was sixth with a 31’-8” effort.
Taylor Claybon had another big day placing second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.31, third in the 100 hurdles in 17.26 and sixth in the 200 meter dash in 28.5.
Kyra Burcham placed second in the discus with a toss of 108’-8” and Plank added fourth place points in the same event with a effort of 103’-10”.
Pivotal points also came in the relay events where GEHS placed second in the 1600 relay and third in the 3200.
