Cynthia Crooks, Edgerton, won the election April 2 despite not being listed on the ballot.
There were two council seats open on the Edgerton City Council, but only one candidate, Heidi Wiseman, was listed on the ballot.
Johnson County election officials certified the April 2 election on April 8 and announced that Cynthia Crooks had won the second seat on the council.
Sarah Horn, election official, said she did not know off-hand how many votes Crooks received, but it was enough to land her the job of city council member if she wants it.
The Gardner News was unsuccessful in its attempts to contact Crooks prior to press time.
However, Horn said, it will be up to Crooks to let Edgerton officials know whether she plans to serve a four-year term on the council. If she declines, the mayor may appoint into the open seat.
