Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry and Public Information Officer Jerrod Fredricks were arrested on Feb. 27.
The pair was arrested by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation following a six-month investigation.
Curry and Fredricks were each charged with interference with law enforcement, and Curry was charged with an additional count of official misconduct.
The charges were filed in Franklin County by Shawnee County. The specifics of the charges have not been disclosed.
Curry and Fredricks were arrested in the afternoon and booked into the Wyandotte County Jail.
According to booking and release reports on the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department, the two posted bail within hours.
Stephen Hunting, Franklin County attorney, said proceedings were underway in district court to remove Curry from office.
He also called on Curry to resign.
Curry and Fredricks are scheduled to make their first court appearance on March 6.
