Adraina Holopirek, Gardner Parks and Recreation supervisor, was awarded the Distinguished Aquatic Professional of the Year Award on Jan. 30 at the Kansas Recreation and Park Association Conference in Manhattan, Kan. The award is presented to one aquatics professional annually, and Adraina was an excellent choice to be recognized in front of all Kansas parks and recreation professionals.
As a recreation supervisor for the Gardner Parks and Recreation Department, Adraina is responsible for overseeing operations related to the Gardner Aquatic Center. She has held the responsibility for two-years now. The facility averages over 94,000 visitors per season and employs 120-plus seasonal staff. A recent professional survey reported that the Gardner Aquatic Center continues to be a leader in citizen satisfaction when compared with 32 other Kansas City metropolitan communities. It’s Adraina’s dedication and efforts that brings such results.
Adraina is a true professional that has successfully been able to balance safety, structure, efficiency and fun for visitors, citizens and employees. According to city parks officials, Adraina’s dedication has been an asset to the community and her professionalism and friendly attitude continues to be well received by everyone. Adraina continues to be active with the Kansas Recreation and Parks Association Aquatics Branch and KCMAC in effort to further her knowledge and to assist others that operate aquatic facilities. Adraina works closely with the management team, lifeguards and facility attendants of the Gardner Aquatic Center to ensure both safety and quality aquatic experiences.
In addition to quality daily operations, Adraina develops and oversees a large number of programs and special events. There are 93 different sessions of all levels of swimming lessons offered to the public. Private lessons are also scheduled for those that desire individual instruction. Several creative and fun special events are programmed to enhance experiences with the facility and staff. Adult exercise classes and opportunities are more popular than ever.
