Shelby Baker scored 22 points but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Broncos dropped a hard fought 59-45 decision at rival Paola Dec. 14.
Paola held a slim 12-10 first quarter and then exploded for 20 points in the second quarter to take a 32-20 halftime lead. Paola’s  Lyndsee Johnson scored 16 of her game high 27 points in the pivotal second period.
“We had trouble containing Johnson in the second quarter,” said Coach Clay Frigon. We will work on our team defense during the break and also focus on foul shooting.”
Trailing 32-20 at halftime,  Spring Hill went to work.  Baskets by Sydney Cluck, Sydney Weaver, Macy Carbajo and  Baker sent Spring Hill on a 16-10 run and by quarters end the Broncos trailed just 42-36.
However, Paola regrouped putting up 17 points in the final quarter to secure the win.
Besides Baker, Spring Hill got nine points from Melody Hanson and four points apiece from Weaver and Chastity Ward. Carbajo had three points and Cluck contributed two points.
Now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league , Spring Hill returns to practice Dec 28 in preparation for a Jan. 3 game at Atchison.
