Spring Hill jumped out to a 32-19halftime lead and held on for an impressive 66-59 Frontier league win at Paola Dec. 14.
“Anytime you get a road win in the Frontier league it is a good night,” said Coach Rick O’Neil, whose team stands 4-2 at the holiday break. The kids shot the ball well and withstood a strong Paola rally. I was proud of the effort.”
Spring Hill held a 16-10 first quarter and went up 32-19 by halftime. The Broncos scored 34 second half points and held on for their fourth win of the season.
O’Neil liked the effort of junior Chris Bybee who led the team with 19 points, including 4 for 6 from behind the 3 point arc.
“Anytime Paola got close Chris stepped up and hit a trey,” said O’Neil. “It was quite an effort and made the difference.”
Besides Bybee,  Ivan Hughes, a 5-8  freshman , netted 12 points. Niles Kahn also had 12 points. Sam Jesberg and Danny Martinez scored seven, Matt Smith,three.  Nick Reynolds, Lake Johnson and Kainon Clark, two points.
Once again, the Broncos shot the ball well connecting on 22-44 field goals and 7 0f 11 from behind the 3 point arc. The Broncos made 15-21 free throws and had just 10 turnovers.
In comparison, Paola shot just 43 per cent and had 17 turnovers.
With the win , Spring Hill heads to the holiday at 2-0 in league play and will resume practice Dec 28. First test of the new year comes Jan. 3 at Atchison.
