The Lady Blazers JV basketball team began the season last week with wins against Mill Valley and Bishop Miege.
At home Dec. 4, GEHS used the clutch free throw shooting of Allie Koelzer to post a 43-36 home win against Mill Valley. Koelzer connected on 7-11 free throws down the stretch to seal the verdict.
Trailing 8-6 after one quarter, GEHS went to work. Behind the 3 point shooting of Abby Buie and Harley Rousselo the Blazers claimed an 18-14 half time lead. Savannah Hallier scored 5 third quarter points to keep GEHS ahead. Koelzer capped some solid offensive play in the fourth quarter to get the win.
It was the same winning story in a Dec. 7 home game against Bishop Miege. The Blazers trailed 27-14 at halftime but rallied in the third quarter behind the 3 point shooting of Abby Kessler, Hallier, Rousello and Karigan Kennedy to pull within 6 points to start the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the defense stepped up its effort holding Miege to just 4 points in the fourth quarter. The offense responded with a 13 point rally to lock up a close 36-33 win.
At 2-0, GEHS got right back on the court at home against Olathe North. The team travels to Blue Valley Southwest Dec. 14.
