Wilma Lenore (Brown) Compton, 82, of Spring Hill, Kan. passed away Dec. 1, 2012 at Olathe Medical Center.  
Wilma was born May 9, 1930 in Metz, Mo. to John Ross and Lireva Lucy (Nicholas) Brown. She graduated from Metz High School in 1948 where she was a star basketball player.
Wilma married Farley LaVerne Compton on May 23, 1948 in Rich Hill, Mo. They lived several years in Sheldon, Mo. and moved to Spring Hill in 1954. They were married for 56 years.
As a housewife, her life was focused on her husband and children. Wilma enjoyed canning, gardening, and raising chickens. She played piano by ear and especially loved playing hymns while her children sang.
Wilma was a member of the Spring Hill Methodist Church for many years. She loved Jesus and enjoyed hearing Bible verses. Wilma will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Farley, in 2004; sons, Robert and Victor Compton; brothers, Willard and Ernest Brown.
Wilma is survived by children, Patricia Powell and husband Larry, of Salina, Kan., John Compton and wife Shirley, of Grants, N. M., James Farley Compton and wife Cindy, of Blue Springs, Mo., and Jerry Compton, of Spring Hill; siblings, Sue Stevenin, of LaCygne, Kan., John Henry Brown, of Richland, Mo. and sister-in-law, Marge Brown, of Miller, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren including two step grandchildren.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012 at Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS (913)592-2244. Burial follows at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. before the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Olathe Medical Center Charitable Foundation.
