The Lady Blazers volleyball team is headed to the state 6A tournament in Topeka this weekend after winning a  home Sub state Oct 20.
In first round action, the Blazers turned back Lawrence 25-9, 25-13.  Cassie Wait led the way with 11 kills.  Jill Starling had 9 kills and Hannah Bettge had 28 assists. Shelby Van De Berghe recorded two blocks.
In the title match with Olathe South, Gardner Edgerton High School posted a 25-12, 25-20 win and advanced to state.   Wait had 9 kills, Starling 5, and Danie Plank 4 kills and 3 serve aces.
“Our serve reception was excellent all day,” said Coach Daryl Wait. That allowed us to hit from all positions and we passed well.”
Now 34-6 and ranked 2nd in  6A, GEHS takes to a Topeka  court against Blue Valley North Oct 26, 9:30 am.  The top two in the pool advance to final round action Oct 27.
“We are playing well right now, and our seven seniors know what it takes to win at state,” added Wait.  “We need to have a good week of practice and get ready to play in a very competitive pool.”
