Maxine Punches

Gladys “Maxine” (Potts) Punches, 88, formerly of Gardner, passed away peacefully Oct. 5, 2012 at Baldwin Health Care Center surrounded by her family.
Maxine was born March 26, 1924 in rural Johnson County, Kan. to Roy and Goldie (Phillips) Potts. She was a life-long Gardner area resident.
Maxine attended a one-room school house for eight years along with her sister. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1942.
Maxine married William “Bill” E Punches on June 2, 1945 in Kansas City, Kan. after he returned from the Army serving in W.W. II.  She worked at Horn’s Grocery, Olathe Southwestern Bell as a phone operator, Hallmark Cards, Russell Stover’s and Cramer Chemical Company in the mailing department for 18 years; retiring in 1965.
Maxine enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, water skiing and traveling. She was a member of the Gardner First Presbyterian Church and a 67 year member of the Gardner American Legion Auxiliary. Maxine will be dearly missed by family and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William, in 1985.
Maxine is survived by daughter, Connie and husband Ron Crabbs, of Gardner, son, Steve Punches, of Austin, Texas; sister, Virginia Ebberts, of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren: Tammy Michael, of Baldwin City, Kan., Ronnie and wife Angela Crabbs, of Gardner, Pamela and husband Justin Allen, of Wellsville, Kan. and Scott and Samantha Crabbs, of Gardner; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Oct. 10, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 138 E Shawnee, Gardner, KS. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oct. 9, 2012 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S Center, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111. Memorial contributions may be made to Gardner First Presbyterian Church or Baldwin Health Care Center. Condolences may be left at
